Book distribution tips for unknown and known authors? Make Friends: Yes, writing tends to be a solitary activity, but rubbing elbows with other authors and professionals in the writing community can have some big perks. They may be willing to give you endorsements for your book or help get the word out. You’ll also want to make friends with the booksellers at your local independent bookstore and the librarians in your local library. These people are very influential when it comes to recommending your book to readers and helping you grow your audience. Book people are the best people, and it never hurts to know as many as possible.
Instruct how to purchase more books: Add a short form to the back of the book, or a few lines on the copyright page with payment and contact information will make it easy for buyers to purchase additional copies. Join self-publishing organizations: Why reinvent the wheel? New authors or publishers can learn from fellow publishers to make the process easier. You’ll find more information about distribution and wholesale services with organizations like Independent Book Publishers Association IBPA, or The Association of Publishers for Special Sales.
Use your limits. Self-published author and founder of ALLi (Alliance for Independent Authors) Orna Ross told us that the key to productivity is to use the limits that life imposes on you: “If you say to someone ‘here’s a blank page, go write something,’ you’re frozen. The limit allows you to do it… People who think they could write if their circumstances are otherwise—that’s wrong thinking. You finish after a few hours anyway.”
