The hardest part of Northrock Security Bounties (Pro Tem bounty) is unlocking them. The initial mission points you to a location near Delamar… and you don’t find any ship there, and thus you are unable to finish the mission. This happens because mission markers aroung Delamar are glitched (as of 3.6 they are still bugged). The marker points you to a location, but it does not update. The ship that initially spawned there (often a buccaneer) had since moved position and you are unable to find it. I had lots of experience with this mission and the best workaround is Change server until you get the mission to spawn in Hurston. Rarely, Northrock missions spawn around Hurston moons. When they do, look at the marker that appeared and zoom-in on your map. If you see the marker moving, the enemy is 99% there and waiting for you to kill them. After you complete the initial mission the following missions have MUCH less chance of glitching out. For example, I’ve had the initial mission ALWAYS glitch out for me 2-3 times while I was able to complete the following missions 20-30 times in a row without a single glitch, all in one patch.

Server side issues are essentially the main performance bottleneck currently. The server has a lot of load which is the main cause of performance issues on the client side. I won’t get into too much technical details, but they are using a lot of tools to fix these issues like OCS, SSOCS, server meshing and so on. The development of these tools is progressing in parallel with the game and we do see improvements from time to time. But to be completely honest, I would rather not comment on how much they can improve this unless I see it first hand. Its a bit premature to state the final system requirements for the released game, but we can certainly talk about the current situation. Look at some of my hardware guides here.

As much as the visuals and animation are stunning, it also lacks realism based on physics. Granted, it’s a game, so most casuals will not make a fuss about it, but if you are a hardcore gamer, it can bother you because it takes away some part of the realistic gaming experience. If you want to reach the expert level, that won’t because the learning curve is very steep. Also, your character will not level up because you performed some tasks or made some kills. The game does not have a character leveling up feature, and it’s the same thing for flying your ship. Previous flight experience is not going to help you at all.

Ship combat is fun and has been fun since at least 2015. There is a mode called Arena Commander where you can go against other players or AI in small pre-generated maps. Because these maps are only meant for small skirmishes, performance is very very good. I get well over 100 fps. Small fighters like the Galdius and Arrow are fast and nimble. Medium fighters can have stealth (Sabre), be good at brawling (Hornet) or be glass cannons (Hurricane). You even have heavy fighters like the Vanguard series which is reminiscent of the P-38 Lightning from WW2. Speaking of WW2, combat is essentially WW2 dogfighting with some cold war missiles/ stealth tech blended in. See more information at https://www.mmopixel.com/.
